If you have great credit then you probably have enough financial aptitude to earn a reasonable percentage on your money. CDs are just about the worst place to tie up your money. And you are right about banks not caring if you keep your checking or savings with them. In general, any investment is buying something at a low price and then selling it at a higher price. Gain some real expertise in any market and you can do better than stocks, bonds, or CDs.

(Assumptions: your credit history continues with the oldest credit card and your credit limit increases to the combined total.) Does anyone know?
